If you have come calling for Lambrusco at Metro Wines over the last few years, there's a good chance you walked out with a bottle of L'Onesta. The bottle is unquestionably our most popular Lambrusco and a consistent staff favorite.
For some, the name Lambrusco still brings back memories of sweet, fizzy, melted grape popsicle wine in a brown bottle from years ago. It's time for a reset!*Judging modern Lambrusco by those old bottles is a little like deciding you don't like Cabernet because you had a rough experience with bargain jug wine.
L'Onesta is made from Lambrusco di Sorbara, one of the lightest and most delicate styles of Lambrusco. It's pale enough to look almost like a deeply colored rosé, with bright acidity, lively bubbles and a refreshingly DRY finish.
Expect flavors of red raspberry, hibiscus, tart strawberry, dried violets and sophisticated cherry candy. Serve it well chilled with charcuterie, Parmesan, light pasta dishes, or even a Thanksgiving Turkey!!"
*The reset for Lambrusco starts with the free association with historic figures of the day including Montagna and the new devotees: Ferrari Drivers! Ferrari is based in Maranello, which sits squarely in the "Motor Valley" and "Food Valley" of Italy, where Lambrusco is the local wine of choice. The company’s founder, Enzo Ferrari, was a massive fan of Lambrusco (specifically Lambrusco di Sorbara). He famously drank it regularly at the Cavallino restaurant directly across from the factory!
