Andy Says: If you enjoy mature Reds with a little oak spice and savory complexity, this Rioja Reserva is worth a try. Conde Valdemar has been family-owned for 5 generations and has been making wine in Rioja since the late 19th century. While Rioja Reserva requires extensive aging before release, Valdemar typically goes beyond the minimum, giving the wine additional time in barrel to develop its signature toasted character.
What impressed me the most was the quality for the price. For $24, there is a surprising amount of complexity partnered with versatility and fairly universal appeal.
Expect flavors of red cherry, tobacco, quince, vanilla, cocoa, dried plum and baking spices. Pair it with Spanish Tapas, roasted meats, pasta or cheeses.
Winery Says: "A wine which reveals a perfect harmony blend of ripe fruit and the finesse of sweet spices, cocoa and toffee nuances produced by its well-balanced barrel aging."
