Andy Says: "It's back. The new vintage of one of last year's favorite reds has just arrived and it's exactly the right time for this light bodied, chill-able red. It's made exclusively from Nielluccio (nee-ah-loo-chi-oh) which is the Corsican name for Sangiovese, the Italian varietal known as Chianti. Oddly enough, though, this wine does not come from Corsica where it is grown, it hails from the South of France instead, in Corbières region of Languedoc.
Domaine le Cendrillon has been owned by the same family since 1750 and they recently converted to organic viticulture and winemaking. While Nielluccio can be powerful and rich, this wine is made with carbonic maceration which prioritizes fruit over heavy, tannic extraction, producing a wine that is relatively light, fruit forward and extremely drinkable. It presents cheerful flavors of red cherry, ripe strawberry, silky tannins and a little tobacco and Italian herbs, just enough to remind you that you are drinking Sangiovese. Enjoy this fun summertime red with a slight chill next to a charcuterie board and ideally a picnic basket."
