Winery Says: Dark purple core with a magenta rim. A rich nose of blackberry compote, dried cherries, cedar, steeped violets, porcini consommé, ferrous earth, and dried herbs. Bold on the entry, the wine has a core of black fruit etched with intricate notions of sumac, wild herbs, and earth. Dense and bold, the firmly textured, almost stony tannins are pure Priorat, but the wine has a freshness to balance the dense concentration that keeps it light on its feet. Fans of the region will appreciate the typicity, while lovers of Rhône wines will find comparable weight and quality to great Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Drink now–2035.

Ferrer Bobet, one of the elite producers of Priorat, captures the rugged boldness of the region with this rich and full-bodied 2019 old-vines release. Scented with wild herbs and wild cherry, with the inky concentration of old-vine Châteauneuf-du-Pape, but with the freshness that defines Spain.

Founded in 2002 by Sergi Ferrer-Salat and Raül Bobet. Ferrer Bobet has topped the Who’s Who list in Spain, standing with giants like Scala Dei and Mas Doix. Robert Parker’s called it “the future showplace of Priorat.” Following a strict protocol of organic viticulture and high-altitude growing, every drop of concentration from sleek, packed ripe berries and century-old vines is pulled forth.

Totally terroir based wine, Ferrer Bobet’s high-elevation vineyards give aromas of wild herbs, fennel, baked earth in the glass. The llicorella slate soils bring earthy, mineral depth. And the sun baking the Carignan and Grenache results in a voluptuous concentration in the grapes.

Carignan and Grenache from 20-year-old estate vineyards are hand-picked and sorted berry by berry. The wine is aged in lightly toasted French oak barrels for 16 months, endowing the rich dark fruit profile with subtle spice.
