The artwork references the legendary Georgian soldiers who fought to the death during the Persian invasion of 1795 allowing the last King of Georgia to escape."
Despite the drama on the label, the wine is a surprisingly approachable expression of Saperavi, Georgia's signature grape. Saperavi is a rare teiturier varietal meaning the flesh and juice are pigmented as wall as the skins, which is one reason the wines can become so extraordinarily dark and intense.
Many Saperavi wines are powerful, deeply colored and firmly tannic, but Guardian is made younger, juicier style with softer tannins and plenty of fresh fruit. Expect flavors of tart cherry, wild blackberry, fig, anise and a touch of peppery spice. Give it a slight chill and enjoy it with stews, pasta, roasted meets, even burgers and, apparently, Punjabi Salmon!"
