The vegetable tends to emphasize the vegetal side of many wines, making your favorite Bordeaux suddenly taste like you dropped grape jelly into a can of green beans! Not ideal. Enter Grüner Veltliner, famous for pairing smoothly with challenging vegetables- even asparagus. Höpler Grüner has been a staple at the shop for years: affordable, consistently delicious and produced by the same family since the 1800s. Current owner Christof Höpler is also an incredibly gracious person who visits Asheville regularly. Bright and vivid with flavors of lime, tart pear, white pepper, and an herbal character reminiscent of arugula. Great solo on the porch or as an aperitif, but this Grûner really shines alongside seafood, pork and yes, asparagus!"
