Joe Chandellier "Alluvions" Viognier. France 2024
Andy Says: "I love Viognier, but I'm picky about the style. I lean toward the cooler climate expressions - lively acidity, white flowers and fresh stone fruit - rather than the heavy, low acid, peach pie versions. Joe Chandellier's Viognier hits that perfect balance. Grown on higher altitude vineyards in the South of France, this organically farmed wine stays crisp and aromatic, showing notes of white peach, honeysuckle and citrus peel. Versatile and food friendly, its excellent with poultry, seafood, mushrooms or Southeast Asian cuisine."
The Winery: Joe Chandellier is a newcomer to the world of wine with his first vintage being 2019. His vineyards are mostly located in Souvignargues in the Languedoc. A young and passionate winemaker, his vineyard is farmed organically with the careful attention of a man with the purpose to produce natural wines of character that taste of their terroir. The 2024 blanc was picked a little underripe intentionally, to avoid some of Viognier’s lush aromatic profile. The wine is aged on the lees in concrete, and bottled free of sulfur. It has a really nice palate feel. Mineral characteristics come through. The vines are planted in blue marl soils, in a site with southerly sun exposure.
