Andy Says: "Yes, Catarratto is best known as one of the traditional grapes for Marsala and few producers have done more to preserve the old-school traditions of Marsala than Marco de Bartoli.
While plenty of Marsala is manipulated to look older and richer, de Bartoli built his reputation around doing things the slow way: real aging, careful farming and traditional winemaking.
And now he offers fascinating dry table wines , including this 100% Catarratto. "Lucido" ferments with indigenous yeasts and then spends 7 months on its lees adding texture and a little extra richness without sacrificing freshness.
Grown in Western Sicily near the Mediterranean, the wine offers flavors of apple, lemon, almonds, white flowers and a distinctly salty finish. With a little more weight than your average crisp white, it pairs beautifully with richer seafood, poultry and creamy pasta dishes."
