Andy Says: "This is about as classically Australian as a wine can be: bold, big, jammy, powerful and delicious. Don't let the slightly inappropriate name* scare you away. The wine was once recommended to me as the Australian answer to The Prisoner and I immediately understood why. Unlike the Prisoner's Zinfandel based blend, this Barossa Valley powerhouse is composed of 87% Shiraz with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot making up the balance. But like The Prisoner, this wine is BIG. The 2022 vintage earned 92 points from James Suckling and, remarkably, It's one of the few value priced wines to receive 90 points or more in the last 15 vintages. Expect generous flavors of stewed plum, blackcurrant, cedar, mocha, blackberry pie and a hint of eucalyptus. Pair Tait with boldly flavored foods, especially anything grilled!"
*Tait "Ball Buster" Shiraz gets its name from a play on words and a humorous tribute to the sheer power of the wine. Winemaker Bruno Tait joked about the "blood, sweat, and tears" (and the Australian industry proverb that wine can "bust your balls") required to produce great wine, especially when breaking the wine snob barrier. This wine was originally intended to be an elegant and delicate blend named after Bruno's wife, Michelle. However, once they tasted the final bold, extroverted, and full-bodied Shiraz, they realized it was a powerhouse—complete with broad shoulders and intense attitude—which made the cheeky name a perfect fit.
