Enrico Serafino Picotener Nebbiolo 2021

Andy Says: "This was one of the wines that really stuck with me from my trip to Italy. While visiting Enrico Serafino in Piemonte, I tasted a lighter remarkably aromatic Nebbiolo that immediatley got my attention. The winery explained that this wine was made entirely from Picotener, an old and now extremely rare sub-variety of Nebbiolo.

Picotener nearly disappeared because the vines are low yielding and less vigorous than more common Nebbiolo biotypes. Enrico Serafino revived the varietal and became the first producer to release a wine specifically labeled as Picotener Langhe Nebbiolo DOC!

The result is unmistakably Nebbiolo on the palate but with a particularly floral and energetic personality. Expect rose petals, violets, cranberry, tart cherry, red raspberry, spice and a little of that earthy Piemonte character I associate with truffles. Serve slightly chilled."
